German chemical company BASF said it is stopping production of genetically modified (GM) crops for the European market. They said hostility from consumers was the reason for this decision. Through this move 140 high skilled people will lose their job. The company will move its plant-science unit from Limburgerhof in Germany to Raleigh, North Carolina in the United States where GM is far less controversial than in Europe.
