New research from Brazil suggests that giving primiparous sows altrenogest in the last week of lactation can help reduce the number of low birthweight piglets. They published their findings in Theriogenology. Genetic selection for hyperprolific sows has increased the proportion of low birthweight piglets, birthweight variation within the litter, and pre-weaning mortality.
