Link between microbiota 
and piglet performance

We all know that a healthy gut is better for the animal. But what defines a healthy microbiota and which bacteria are found? A trial was done to find out by using the so called PMI index. The coevolution of intestinal microbiota and a specific host animal has formed unique host-microbe combinations. Since bacteria utilise different substrates, the composition of diet and the physiological functions of the host largely determines the composition of the microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract. C
